How Important Is A Superstar Quarterback?
Is a marquee quarterback needed to win a National Championship in college football? History poses an interesting scenario. Looking over the last 10 National Champions the answer is clear. To win the National Championship you do not need a superstar. Sure, it helps to be able to have Vince Young carry you all the way. But, is it necessary? NO. This is a list of the starting quarterbacks to win the national championship in the last 10 seasons. And for the purposes of this story both USC and LSU are included in 2003.
Who Will Fill The Leadership Void?
Going into the 2008 football season Coach Les Miles has a few holes to fill in his starting lineup. Quality players dot the roster, and more than a few underclassmen have waited patiently for their opportunity to see the field and show they are up to the challenge. But replacing talent alone will not be the key to another successful season for Coach Miles. At the heart of what he has to prepare his team for this season is replacing the leadership lost from last season’s National Champs. Matt Flynn, Glenn Dorsey, Craig Steltz, Jacob Hester and Early Doucet (and honestly we could include every senior on the team last year. They were that strong.) were known before the season started last year to be leaders.
